About Us
Design shaped by the people who live in it
Somn Studio is an interior design practice based in Kuala Lumpur. We work with homeowners, families, and small businesses who want spaces that genuinely reflect who they are.

Our Story
A practice built around unhurried attention
Somn Studio was founded with a straightforward conviction: the best interior design comes from genuinely understanding the people who will inhabit a space. Not just their aesthetic references, but their daily habits, the way natural light moves through their home at different hours, and the small moments that make a place feel like it belongs to them.
We are based in Ampang Hilir, Kuala Lumpur, and we work on residential and commercial projects across the Klang Valley. Our team is small by choice. Every project that comes through our door is handled with the same care, whether it is a first apartment or a multi-room home renovation.
Over the years, we have refined our process into three distinct services — each designed for a different stage of the design journey. Some clients come to us with a blank page. Others arrive mid-renovation, needing a steady hand to see things through. Both are welcome.
Our Mission
Spaces that carry a sense of belonging
Our mission is straightforward: to create spaces where people feel at ease. Not because everything is perfect in a catalogue sense, but because the space has been shaped around the life that takes place inside it.
We take design seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. We ask questions before we make suggestions. We explain our thinking rather than presenting it as a done deal. And we adapt along the way, because real spaces belong to real people, not to a brief.

The People

How We Work
Standards that shape every project
These are not policies on paper. They are the commitments we hold ourselves to with each client.
Honest assessment
We tell you what is workable and what is not. We would rather have an honest conversation early than manage an expectation that does not fit the space or the budget.
Clear documentation
All design deliverables are structured for practical use — by you, by your contractor, and by suppliers. Nothing is left ambiguous or assumed.
Sustainable sourcing
Where possible, we recommend locally available materials that perform well in Malaysia's climate — reducing both costs and environmental footprint.
Privacy & discretion
All client information and project details remain confidential. We do not share project images or details without explicit permission.
Regular communication
We keep you updated at each stage without flooding your inbox. Communication is clear, relevant, and structured around the decisions that actually need your input.
Professional memberships
Our practice is aligned with current Malaysian interior design guidelines and maintains awareness of industry standards through ongoing professional development.
Interior design in Kuala Lumpur, done thoughtfully
Interior design in Kuala Lumpur draws on a rich and layered visual culture — influences from across the region sit alongside contemporary international references, and the tropical climate adds its own set of considerations around ventilation, light quality, and material durability. Somn Studio works within this context, choosing materials and palettes that make sense for the environment rather than simply replicating trends from colder climates.
Our client relationships are built on trust and patience. Many of the people who come to us have been thinking about a renovation or redesign for some time. They arrive with ideas and concerns, preferences and doubts. We make space for all of it. The design process, at its most meaningful, is a conversation about how you want to feel in your home — and that conversation takes time to do well.
